O Presidente da República, Aníbal Cavaco Silva, afirmou esta segunda-feira que as medidas de austeridade impostas pelo Governo para conter o défice público podem não chegar.
"Talvez não seja suficiente", disse o chefe de Estado, lacónico, sem se alongar em comentários às declarações do ministro das Finanças, Teixeira dos Santos, que se mostrou hoje disposto a tomar medidas suplementares de contenção. Cavaco Silva lembrou que ainda não tomou posse como Presidente, o que só acontecerá a 9 de Março, para justificar a contenção nas palavras.
O Presidente falava à margem da cerimónia de inauguração do primeiro Laboratório de Nanofabricação em Portugal, na Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade Nova de Lisboa, no Campus da Caparica, Almada. A nova estrutura representou um investimento de um milhão de euros e só foi possível porque a responsável do projecto, Elvira Fortunato, recebeu em 2008 uma bolsa de 2,5 milhões de euros do Conselho Europeu de Investigação.
O laboratório vai permitir desenvolver novos materiais e produtos, concretizando uma aposta forte na eletrónica transparente e electrónica de papel.
"É fundamental nos tempos que correm que se dê visibilidade ao de positivo que se faz no País", disse Cavaco Silva, sublinhando que "Portugal tem de ser capaz de aproveitar bem o potencial da comunidade científica porque é decisivo para o desenvolvimento do País e bem-estar das populações".
